Ancienne Langue

L'Ancienne Langue est une langue morte, utilisée couramment durant l’Âge des Légendes, mais aujourd'hui utilisée uniquement par les historiens et certains nobles, et encore de façon souvent incorrecte.

Histoire

Malgré les nombreuses guerres, la Dislocation du Monde, les Guerres Trolloques, la Guerre des Cent Ans, il reste suffisamment d'écrits pour pouvoir encore apprendre cette langue. Pendant la Dislocation, par exemple, l'Ancienne Langue n'a pas disparu puisque les livres étaient toujours imprimés dans cette langue. Les hommes et les femmes des Dix Nations la parlaient couramment. Cependant, pendant cette période, ce qui succédera à l'Ancienne Langue, la Nouvelle Langue, aussi appelée Langage Courante, commença à se familiariser. Durant le chaos des Guerres Trolloques, la langue Courante devint la plus utilisée. Durant l'époque d'Artur Aile-de-Faucon, alors que même les fermiers connaissaient toujours l'Ancienne Langue, et que les nobles étaient obligés de parler l'Ancienne Langue, la Langue Courante devint de plus en plus populaire. Après la Guerre des Cent Ans, on n'entendit presque plus parler l'Ancienne Langue.

Beaucoup de nobles sont supposés apprendre l'Ancienne Langue, mais se contentent souvent d'apprendre juste les bases. Toutes les Aes Sedai en ont une certaine connaissance, puisque les novices l'apprennent en classe. Seuls les historiens s’intéressent vraiment à l'apprentissage de cette langue.

Aujourd'hui

Les noms d'anciennes cités ou pays sont des reliquats de l'Ancienne Langue (ex. Manetheren ou Aridhol), ou Cairhien (originairement appelée al'cair'rahien'allen), de même que le nom d'organisations ancestrales comme les Aes Sedai, ou le nom des sociétés guerrières Aielles, des inscriptions (ex. "Tia mi aven Moridin isande vadin").
